Catan<\/em> is one of today's most popular board games, a permanent display on the shelves of all lovers and is often so used that the images on the cards have become unrecognizable, and the cubes slowly turn into balls. The reason for this is obvious: Catan combines strategic thinking and a share of happiness in a winning way, and stands out with a great possibility of repetition before saturation and feeling de-ja-vua.<\/em><\/p>\n

More details on the basic version<\/strong><\/p>\n

On an island made up of areas with various resources, players compete whose settlers will take control and build the most powerful colony. Points are collected by raising settlements and cities, building the longest road and assembling the largest army.<\/p>\n

Of course, all this comes at a price, so you will take good care of which resource areas you occupy. While you try to drive the opposing settlers into some unprofitable nook and cranny bones, you will try to take the fertile plains and rich mines yourself. Catan<\/em> Especially exciting is the colorful trade of goods between players, accompanied by bargaining and boycotts, as well as the manipulation of a band of bandits that players target each other.<\/p>\n

Catan's popularity can also be attributed to its detachment from a particular language because players do not need to know foreign languages in order to be competitive. The game is tense already in three players, the basic version is intended for a maximum of four, and you can also buy an extension for the fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n

Seafarers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seafarers is definitely the easiest expansion for Catan<\/em> With a minimum of new rules, it introduces a large number of new possibilities and game variations. If you have crossed the paths of the poor island of Catan and dotted it with settlements so many times that you are already bored with it, it is time for an \"expansionist\" policy and the discovery of new worlds.<\/p>\n

In the Seafarers, as the name suggests, you will sail and establish new trade routes along the sea routes. Just as important as roads will become ships, and they will in turn give importance to hitherto neglected sheep. Unlike land routes, maritime routes are not carved into stone and can be partly diverted depending on how the \"winds of the economy\" blow. If they connect to the road through settlements on the coast, together they form a single trade route that can compete for the status of the longest route. The Seafarers also bring a new resource: gold<\/strong> \u2013 and when its number drops, you indulge in your wild dreams and pull the resource as you wish. <\/strong>While the bandits will continue to wreak havoc on land, at sea a new threat will now be pirates blocking sea routes.<\/p>\n

The various scenarios introduced by this expansion will set different game strategies, as well as the different number of points needed to win. Seafarers are rarely played by less than twelve points, and sometimes by 16-17, which means that the game usually lasts longer. In one scenario, you will race to be the first to inhabit the yet uninhabited islands because it will bring fat points, in the other you will literally \"sail into the unknown\" and discover the mainland, which may be hiding the resources that your economy longs for, and perhaps the risk will be in vain because everything you will see turning new and new hexagons will be just \"sea, sea sinja\"...<\/p>\n

If you are a supporter of the saying \u2018the more the merrier\u2019, you will love that this expansion can also be extended to fifth and sixth players.<\/p>\n
