Festival of Fantasy and Science Fiction \u201cLiburnicon\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend, 16th. \u2013 18 August) is expecting another edition of the Fantasy and Science Fiction Festival <em>Liburnicon,<\/em> traditionally held in Opatija's Elementary School <em>Rikard Katalini\u0107 Jeretov<\/em>, which attracts around two thousand interested visitors from all over Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The main theme of this year's festival is <em>Alternative history<\/em>, so numerous lectures, workshops, presentations, games and quizzes are coordinated to bring Opatija back to the past, not real but fantastic, in which the sky is filled with airships and the sea with steamships and other machines that look like they came out of one of Jules Verne's novels. In addition to numerous decorations that will evoke the magical atmosphere of the 19th century, a competition in cosplay, a new type of art through which the skills of making masks and performances are combined to embody a literary, film or other character, will surely attract great interest.<\/p>\n<p>The honorary guest of this year's festival is the famous American writer Tad Williams, the author of numerous fantastic books that have been published in over 17 million copies and translated into 25 languages, including Croatian, so that we can find famous triologies such as <em>Memory, sadness, thorn<\/em>, with which many fans of this genre grew up, and something newer <em>Shadow boundaries<\/em> It lays new foundations and guides the development of contemporary fantasy literature. In addition to presenting his works, signing books and a literary panel on high fantasy (a specific, narrow genre within fantasy literature), Williams will also participate in numerous other activities and socialize with fans. Along with him, this year's guest of honor is an Italian artist known as Sweet Angel, who is professionally engaged in cosplay (making and presenting masks based on fantastic characters), and with over 170,000 followers on social networks and numerous awards won at the world level, certainly represents one of the leading names of this new form of art. On Saturday, he will present his work at Liburnicon, but also give a lecture on how to approach cosplay and how to deal with it professionally.<\/p>\n<p>As in previous years, Liburnicon continues to popularize science, so visitors can expect numerous lectures, including physicists Sasa Cecio who will talk about <em>Children's Questions<\/em>, queries that look extremely simple and the complexity of the answers to them can surprise us, Davor Horvatic who will deal with the Big Bang theory and the problems it encounters, and Ivica Puljak who will explain whether science and the rapid development of technology brings us more good or evil.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to numerous domestic and foreign scientists, the program will host more writers who are engaged in fantastic and science fiction literature. The entertainment part of the program, in addition to the above-mentioned cosplay competition, is led by performances by bands <em>Take it Dee Dee<\/em> i <em>The Winch <\/em>\u00a0as well as numerous social and table games, quizzes and workshops, gathered in a rich program that has over a hundred program items.<\/p>\n<p>In the organization and implementation of the festival, almost a hundred young people from Opatija and the surrounding area volunteer, which makes Liburnicon the largest Opatija youth festival. Nevertheless, we should not forget that the program of the festival is intended for all ages, from <em>Workshops of magic potions<\/em> Saturday evening to the rich children's program that awaits us on Sunday, which will include a famous theater group<em> The Oz Theatre<\/em> with his show <em>Keymaker: Ring <\/em><em>Frankopan<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers from the Association for the Development of Youth Culture <em>Kulturni front<\/em> They point out that the program starts on Friday from 5 pm and will last until Sunday in the evening.
