Announcement of the 20th Liburnicon Fantasy and Science Fiction Festival

This year's Liburnicon Science Fiction and Fantasy Festival takes you back to the exciting world of mythology and folklore, genre literature and film culture, and advanced sciences and technologies!

It will take place in its usual time slot: Third weekend in August, so mark 15th and 16th of August on your calendars. This time, the venue will be once again at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Ika, a beautiful location right by the sea which consists of the inner space of the faculty and the park below the building.

Liburnicon is a festival which has been held for 20 years straight by the Association Kulturni front from Opatija. The Liburnicon program combines serious and entertaining content and creates a unique atmosphere that makes it one of the largest youth festivals in the region. Every year we try to bring interesting lecturers, scientists and writers from all over Croatia, but also from abroad. On the other hand, the entertainment programme involves organisers, volunteers, guests, exhibitors and – most importantly – visitors in different ways. Having fun with a concert and a refreshing drink, swimming in the afternoon on the beaches of Opatija or the Giant Settlers party between lectures is what makes our festival different from others.

For the 20th edition of the festival, it was decided that the theme of Liburnicon would be: Dragons!

Dragons are legendary mythological creatures that have occupied the imagination of people throughout history and are still present today in pop culture and other forms of art that deal with the subject of fantasy, both for children and adults. Whether they are monstrous reptiles with wings and horns that blaze fire, or snakelike and wise, dragons are a subject that perpetuates fantasy and are an inexhaustible source of imagination. Prepare your fire-resistant armor because this year at Liburnicon we're going to explore dragons!
